Traditional East Asian Medicine

Acupuncture &
Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM)

Traditional East Asian Medicine originated in China over 4000 years ago. The ancient Chinese believed that body, mind and spirit were inseparable.  The belief that the foundation of good health and prevention of disease is the flow of Qi within the body and the perfect balance of its two opposing components: Yin and Yang continues to be the basis of East Asian medicine today. Modern science calls this dynamic equilibrium homeostasis.

Traditional East Asian medicine is a complete and holistic medical system consisting of Herbal Medicine, Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Dietary therapy, Tuina Massage, Qigong exercise & meditation, and numerous supplementary therapies; it concentrates on treating the person not the disease.  By restoring balance to a disrupted flow of Qi within the meridian and organ systems, it allows the body to heal itself.

About Margella

Personal Profile

Margella’s initial encounter with complementary health was during the 1970’s. Her own highly positive personal experience with diet, herbal medicine, and acupuncture was the motivating force behind her passion for optimum health and her on-going study of a spectrum of therapeutic disciplines that has spanned 4 decades. She works eclectically and is dedicated to helping others achieve optimum health

Special Interests

Margella has a particular interest in all aspects of women’s health and fertility and has studied with a number of specialists in the field. She regularly supports women with Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and helps many women with the common diagnosis of ‘unexplained’ infertility, which can often be demystified when viewed from an East Asian Medicine perspective.  Margella also offers treatments for male fertility issues such as low sperm count, mobility and morphology issues and lifestyle and dietary support alongside treatment for couples undergoing assisted reproduction such as IVF, ICSI and IUI.  Margella usually continues to support women throughout their pregnancy with antenatal acupuncture, treating complaints such as nausea, constipation and high blood pressure. She highly recommends birth preparation acupuncture from 34 weeks, which has been shown to reduce the duration of labour and lessen the pain. Acupuncture and moxibustion also have a high success rate in turning babies in the breech position.

Margella also specialises in supporting people with cancer using acupuncture, herbal medicine and dietary and lifestyle coaching.  She is passionate about helping individuals of all ages reverse the process of ageing and degeneration, to resolve the root causes of disorders they may have and to help them restore balance and wellbeing.
